A SUBMISSION GRAPPLING BJJ Club for EVERYONE

We are a passionate and inclusive club dedicated to helping students of all ages and skill levels grow on and off the mats.

Grappling/BJJ, is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on ground fighting and submission techniques. It is a hybrid discipline that incorporates elements of various martial arts such as various wrestling styles, judo, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

SELF-DEFENCE

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport focused on grappling and ground fighting, with a strong emphasis on self-defense. It teaches techniques to control and subdue an opponent using leverage and technique, allowing a smaller person to defend against a larger, stronger attacker.

NOGI

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), “no-gi” refers to practicing the sport without the traditional uniform, known as the gi (a kimono-like jacket and pants). Instead, practitioners wear athletic clothing like rash guards, shorts, or spats.

GI

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), the term “gi” refers to the traditional uniform consisting of a jacket, pants, and a belt. It’s essentially a kimono-like outfit.

GRAPPLE FOR FUN OR TO COMPETE

Many people train BJJ for the love of the sport, enjoying the physical activity, learning new skills, and the social aspect of being part of a community.

This contrasts with those who train with the primary goal of competing in tournaments and striving for high-level achievements.

Frequently asked questions

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) offers a wide range of physical and mental benefits. It enhances physical fitness through improved strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health, while also promoting weight loss and muscle toning. Furthermore, BJJ can reduce stress, improve mental clarity, and boost confidence. The practice also teaches valuable self-defense skills and fosters discipline and resilience.

No former experience is necessary and all levels of fitness can enjoy learning BJJ. In our case,  we train as a team and all levels are welcome to train with us.  We encourage all our students to help develop other students, that way we get better as a whole.

Everything is risk assessed to make training as safe as possible.

First we learn to be safe in all positions, before any sparring occurs.

When you are ready for sparring, you will be completely in control, you can “tap” at any point during rolling(sparring) to stop and reset.

I know its a cliche to say “You’re never too old!” but you really never are! Jiu jitsu is truly a martial art for everyone and there is a thriving community of senior practitioners. We tailor our teaching to the individual and it’s a sport you can take at your own pace.
